{"id":1251,"date":"2013-11-18T16:45:27","date_gmt":"2013-11-18T21:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/httalks.info.yorku.ca\/?page_id=1251"},"modified":"2023-10-31T10:38:31","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T14:38:31","slug":"february-27th-2013-at-tbapm","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/httalks.info.yorku.ca\/?page_id=1251","title":{"rendered":"February 27th, 2014 at 8pm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Speaker<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.agpolpsy.de\/koordination\/brunner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Markus Brunner<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Title<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Giving oneself a history.\u00a0Some reflections on writing the history of psychoanalytic social psychology in the German speaking\u00a0countries from within.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the 2013 issue of the Annual Review of Critical Psychology, a few colleagues and I wrote\u00a0an overview of the history of psychoanalytic social psychology in the German speaking\u00a0countries, a tradition we are ourselves part of (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discourseunit.com\/arcp10\/German%20speaking%20419-468.pdf\">http:\/\/www.discourseunit.com\/arcp10\/German%20speaking%20419-468.pdf<\/a>). The paper outlines the key stages in the development of this\u00a0critical tradition, from Freud and the Freudomarxists to the Frankfurt School, ethnopsychoanalysis,\u00a0and some of the major theoretical and political debates in the 1960s and 70s within the student\u00a0movement and it gives an insight into some of the key research foci and methodological debates\u00a0within this strand.<\/p>\n<p>In my presentation I will shortly introduce the tradition of psychoanalytical social psychology.\u00a0My main goal, however, lies in sharing our critical self-reflections about the text and our project\u00a0of 'inventing' a tradition by writing its history with you. We included these reflections in the later\u00a0German publication of the text. We asked first about the implications of such a tradition building\u00a0for our goal to strengthen our strand of research within the academia, second about its impact on\u00a0the substance of the line of critical thought we are engaged with and third \u2013 somehow turning our\u00a0research methods against ourselves \u2013 about the emotional dynamics involved in our project and in\u00a0constructing a community of psychoanalytic social psychologists. By addressing these issues I would\u00a0like to raise general questions about the purpose and the complex of problems involved in writing a\u00a0history of a scientific (and political) tradition from within.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bio<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Markus Brunner has studied social psychology and sociology with a main focus on critical theory\u00a0and psychoanalysis in Zurich (Switzerland) and Hannover (Germany). He is currently a lecturer of\u00a0social psychology at the Sigmund-Freud-PrivateUniversity in Vienna, one of the coordinators of the\u00a0Workgroup political psychology and co-founder of the newly founded Society for psychoanalytical\u00a0social psychology.
