Building Trust in Community-Based Research: A Look at Ethics and Critical Reflexivity

Kashmala Qasim: Kashmala Qasim completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology from the University of Toronto and completed a Masters in Neuroscience from McMaster University, with a focus on mental health and obesity. Kashmala has been a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the Islamic Online University, has conducted community-based workshops, including podcasts, interviews, and career panels on topics related to mental health in the Muslim community for the past 7 years. Kashmala has also received Level 1 Pastoral Counselling training from the University of Toronto. She is currently pursuing a PhD at York University in Psychology, and is a Researcher and Educator with the Khalil Center. Kashmala’s dissertation involves conducting a qualitative research study looking at the history of Islamic psychology and how Canadian Muslim women studying the Qur'an perceive empowerment, well-being and their own identity within a critical post-modern feminist framework.
