Narratives of Resistance: Arts-Based Practicum in COVID in the House of Old
This talk will detail our experiences coordinating and facilitating the StorySpace component of the COVID in The House of Old (CIHO) exhibit during our applied research practicums. Led by Dr. Megan Davies, CIHO is a touring art exhibit that shared and collected stories of residential long-term care during the COVID-19 pandemic. To begin, we will share our personal experiences as members of the project, hoping to provide some insights for other graduate students into what a collaborative practicum can look like. Since isolation is a common experience in graduate work, practica like this can become an opportunity to work with others. Second, we will share some of our ongoing work building from the practicum, as we consider stories of resident resistance within long-term care during COVID. We are in the initial stages of writing up this project, so we would be grateful for any advice, ideas, and inspiration that might arise from group discussion.
