Title
The Toronto Collection of Psychological Instruments: Plans, Prospects, and Current Status
Abstract
The remarkable collection of instruments, dating from the late-19th Century, has been in storage for many years, with a small selection of the “brass instruments” on display. Many instruments, historical psychological tests, and sets of laboratory and demonstration apparatus have been stored under marginal environmental conditions. The University of Toronto Scientific Instrument Collection group has begun to catalog and document these materials. Important in this process will be applying contemporary conservation methods to preserve them. This joint colloquium will describe the breadth of the collection, demonstrate a few of the instruments, and discuss plans for the preservation and documentation of the materials. The place of the Psychology collection in the context of the broader University holdings will be discussed. Finally, interested people will be encouraged to join in the process.
