Title

History of Psychology in Brazil: Psychological Ideas and Scientific Psychology

Abstract

Our goal is to present some aspects of the history and historiography of psychology in Brazil. We will provide an overview on contemporary trends in the history of psychology in the country, including information about where the main research groups and archives are, as well as the main themes of research. In addition to this, we will address two directions in historical research under development in Brazil. The first one is the investigation of the history of psychological knowledge before the disciplinization of the field in the country. The second deals with histories of psychology as a scientific discipline. We hope our introduction to some trends in the history and historiography of psychology in Brazil can contribute to an expanded understanding of psychology in transit in different contexts.
